Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province is stepping up efforts to woo overseas visitors by tapping into Korean community networks across Asia.
Ulleung County and the Federation of Korean Associations in Asia (President Kim Ki-young) announced on March 25 that they had signed a mutual cooperation MOU at the First Hotel in Clark, Philippines, on March 20.
The agreement was formalized during the inauguration and workshop marking the federation’s fourth term and the launch of the Asia Korean Business Association. About 150 people attended, including leaders of Korean associations from across Asia and business representatives. Ulleung County was represented by Choi Deok-hyun, head of the Tourism and Forestry Division.

Under the pact, the two organizations will collaborate on overseas promotion and marketing of Ulleung’s tourism assets, attract visitors through Asian Korean community networks, expand cultural and tourism exchanges, and support private-sector partnerships. They also discussed ways to address Ulleung’s labor shortages through personnel exchanges.
Ulleung County plans to use the agreement as a springboard to intensify outreach to overseas markets, with a focus on Southeast Asia. Known for its pristine nature and distinctive cultural resources, this island county aims to leverage the federation’s global network—linking Korean associations in more than 20 Asian countries—to boost promotion and drive real visitation.
Nam Han-gwon, mayor of Ulleung County, said, “This partnership provides a platform to raise Ulleung’s global profile among Korean communities across Asia. We will continue expanding cooperation with various overseas networks to strengthen our competitiveness as an international tourist destination.”
