[MyDaily = Reporter Kim Gun-ho] Manchester United has officially abandoned its pursuit of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
The Mirror reported exclusively on May 27 (KST) that United has conceded the race for Anderson to cross-town rival Manchester City.
Anderson made 50 appearances for Nottingham this season and established himself as a key player. His form attracted interest from both United and City. After falling behind City in the transfer battle, United appears to be turning its attention elsewhere.
The Mirror reports that Anderson was one of United’s primary summer targets, but the club’s board is unwilling to meet an asking price around £100 million (about 201 billion KRW (approximately $150.75 million)). The report also says United believes Anderson prefers a move to City. Despite Pep Guardiola’s recent resignation, City reportedly remains confident about securing Anderson’s signature.

With the new season approaching, United—focused on bolstering its central midfield—will shift its attention to other targets.
Since last summer, United has been linked with several midfield candidates, including Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Aurélien Tchouaméni (Real Madrid), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle United) and Ederson (Atalanta).
United is reportedly close to signing Ederson and is expected to then concentrate on adding another midfielder.
City has not yet appointed a new manager. Former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca is a leading candidate, but no official announcement has been made.
Still, City is moving quickly to land Anderson. The Mirror says City wants to complete the deal before Anderson joins England for the World Cup, while Nottingham is aware that a strong tournament with the national team could further raise his value.
Nottingham does not intend to block Anderson’s move but is working to maximize the return.
