[MyDaily = Reporter Ryu Han-joon] It finally came to an end. Nick Kurtz, the Oakland Athletics infielder, saw his on-base streak snapped.
Kurtz started at first base and hit second in the lineup on the 27th at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, California, during the A’s home game against the Seattle Mariners. He came to the plate four times and failed to reach first base in any of his trips.
He finished 0-for-4 and struck out three times, ending his on-base streak at 48 games. MLB.com noted Kurtz’s 48-game streak ties the club record set by Mark McGwire in 1996.
The report also mentioned Choo Shin-soo, who now serves as an aide to the owner of the SSG Landers. Choo put together a 52-game on-base streak in 2018 while with the Texas Rangers.

Shohei Ohtani (LA Dodgers) surpassed that mark with a 53-game on-base streak, which he compiled across two seasons. Choo’s 52-game run remains the single-season high.
The all-time longest streak belongs to Ted Williams, who reached base in 84 consecutive games in 1949.
Kurtz, last season’s American League Rookie of the Year, has emerged as one of the A’s cornerstone players. Still, Oakland fell 1-4 to Seattle on the day his streak ended.
The loss dropped the Athletics to 27-28, dipping below .500, but they remained in first place in the AL West. Seattle sat at 27-29, half a game back. The teams are scheduled to meet again at the same park on the 28th.
