[Sports Today reporter Shin Seo-young] Hye-seong Kim, who has kept his spot on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ major-league roster, reached base multiple times and scored twice to help power the Dodgers to a win.

Kim started at second base and hit eighth in the Dodgers’ May 26 home game against the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

The Dodgers activated Kiké Hernández from the injured list before the game, a move that raised the possibility Kim could be optioned to the minors. Instead, Kim held his roster spot and continued to compete at the big-league level.

Kim snapped a three-game hitless stretch, giving a clear reason for his continued presence on the roster. His season average ticked up from .255 to .257 (29-for-113).

He made an immediate impact in the first inning he batted. Leading off the bottom of the third with the game scoreless, Kim turned on the second pitch from right-hander Tanner Gordon — an 86.9-mph (about 139.9 km/h) slider — and lined a single into right field.

Kim then hustled home on Enrique Hernández’s double to left for the game’s first run.

In the bottom of the fourth, he grounded out to second in his second plate appearance. With the Dodgers trailing 1-3 in the seventh, Kim reached base again to complete a multi-time on-base game. With no outs and a runner on first, he drew a four-pitch walk from Colorado reliever Juan Mejía.

A pinch-hit Miguel Rojas was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs, and Shohei Ohtani’s infield grounder brought home the runner from third, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

With one out and runners at the corners, Kim scored on Mookie Betts’ sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3-3. The Dodgers kept the rally going: Freddie Freeman followed with a double and Andy Pages delivered an RBI single to put Los Angeles ahead 5-3.

Kim ended his night by grounding out to second in the bottom of the eighth, and the Dodgers held on to beat the Rockies, 5-3.

The win was Los Angeles’ third straight. The Dodgers improved to 34-20 and remain firmly in first place in the National League West, 2.5 games ahead of the second-place San Diego Padres (31-22).

The Rockies, meanwhile, dropped their third straight and sit fifth in the division.
