[MyDaily = Reporter Shim Hye-jin] Milwaukee Brewers’ premier prospect Jacob Miziorowski rewrote the record books by unleashing one blistering fastball after another.
Miziorowski started on the 26th (Korean time) at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and dominated the St. Louis Cardinals. He worked seven innings, allowed one hit, struck out 12 and gave up one run.
He powered the Brewers to a 5-1 win, recording his fifth victory of the season and dropping his ERA to 1.83.
Miziorowski showed eye-popping velocity from the first pitch. He hit 103 mph (about 166 km/h) eight times in the first inning alone, and finished the game with 57 pitches at 100 mph (about 160 km/h) or higher.
According to MLB.com, that total is unprecedented in the Statcast era, which began in 2008.
He didn’t stop there — Miziorowski threw 40 pitches at 101 mph (about 162.5 km/h) or faster.
He now has 237 career pitches clocked at 101 mph or above, surpassing Hunter Greene (171), Justin Verlander (54) and Jacob deGrom (52).
Miziorowski also tied his career high with 12 strikeouts and became the first pitcher in MLB this season to reach the 100-strikeout mark.
He allowed no hits through five innings and yielded his first run in the sixth.
His scoreless streak stretched to 29 1/3 innings — the third-longest single-season scoreless run by a Milwaukee starting pitcher in franchise history.
After seven dominant innings, the 35,695 fans at American Family Field gave him a standing ovation.
But Miziorowski stayed composed. \”It’s my job. I just throw the ball hard,\” he said.
