Hull beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in the 2025–26 Championship promotion play-off final at Wembley Stadium in London on May 24 (Korean time). The Championship grants automatic promotion to the top two teams, while the clubs finishing third through sixth enter the play-offs.
Hull finished sixth to claim the final play-off spot. After eliminating Millwall in the semi-finals, they edged Middlesbrough in the final to book their return to the Premier League — their first season back since 2016–17.
The play-offs were also affected by Southampton’s disqualification over an incident at their training ground. Southampton filed an immediate appeal, which was dismissed.
