[SPOTV News = Reporter Cho Yong-woon] Lee Kang-in (25, Paris Saint-Germain), a key attacking figure for Hong Myung-bo’s national team, has been injured.

On May 12 (Korean time), Paris Saint-Germain posted an update on its website. The club said Lee, who injured his left ankle against Brest, will focus on an indoor recovery program rather than outdoor training for the time being.

Lee started PSG’s Round 33 Ligue 1 home match vs. Brest on May 11. He collided heavily with Kamori Doumbia during first-half stoppage time and remained down for several minutes. He appeared to recover by halftime but was eventually replaced by Désiré Doué eight minutes into the second half.

Scans and further checks showed the injury is not serious. He won’t take part in full team training this week, but with controlled indoor work that avoids stressing the ankle, PSG expect him to return to match fitness in the near future.

PSG need just one point to clinch the Ligue 1 title. They could celebrate the championship on the road at Lens in two days, but based on current information, Lee is unlikely to be included in the traveling squad.

If Lee is sidelined for the final two league matches, his club season will effectively end early and he would finish with four goals and five assists. However, because PSG say he can train indoors, his recovery could be relatively quick and an early return to Korea may be delayed.

The news is a fresh concern for Hong Myung-bo’s squad as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America. Hwang In-beom (Feyenoord) is already focused on recovery, and Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich) has reported knee pain. Adding Lee to the club’s medical list increases the alarm among national-team staff.

Lee’s left-foot precision, ability to escape pressure, and creative passing make him a virtually irreplaceable offensive weapon. Alongside Son Heung-min (Los Angeles FC), he’s one of the few players who can directly unsettle opposing defenses, so his absence would be a significant blow to Hong’s tactical plans.

Because PSG’s assessment suggests the injury isn’t serious, there is cautious optimism that Lee could recover quickly enough to be included in the World Cup final roster and feature in the tournament.
