The Hanwha Eagles erased the sting of a five-hour, five-minute extra-innings loss from the day before with a runaway night at the plate. They launched two homers and collected 14 hits in an emphatic 11-3 victory over division-leading the LG Twins.
On May 9 at Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon, Hanwha routed LG 11-3 in a 2026 KBO League game. After dropping a marathon the previous day, the Eagles reversed course in 24 hours and provided a clear sign of momentum.
LG struck first. In the top of the third with one out, the Twins ripped four straight singles to plate two runs and take an early lead. Hanwha answered right away. In the bottom of the third, Yonathan Peraza crushed a two-run homer measured at about 135 meters to knot the game at 2-2, and the momentum shifted to Hanwha.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Hwang Young-mook ripped a two-RBI single to right to push Hanwha ahead 4-2. In the fifth, Huh In-seo added an RBI double and Kim Tae-yeon followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-2. Mun Hyun-bin put the game away in the eighth with a three-run homer to right.
On the mound, Taiwanese left-hander Wang Yencheng held the game together. He surrendered seven hits and three walks but worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and earning his third win of the season. He repeatedly limited damage in high-leverage spots with composed, efficient pitching.
For LG, the night was compounded by the shaky return of starter Yoni Chirinos, who gave up four runs in 3 2/3 innings after a 23-day absence. One bright note: Son Joo-young, making his comeback from injury, threw two scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.
Hanwha’s offense looked fully alive — 11 runs, 14 hits and two homers — and the quick rebound made the win that much more important coming off the previous day’s loss.
