South Korea, already assured of a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup, suffered a 3-0 defeat to North Korea in their final Group C match.
At the Taihu Football Sports Center in Suzhou on the afternoon of the 8th, North Korea struck first in the 13th minute when Eo Jeong-geum headed in from a corner. Kim Won-sim then secured the win with a second-half brace, converting a header from a corner in the 32nd minute and finishing with her left foot in the 37th.
South Korea had already clinched a quarterfinal spot after opening the tournament with wins over the Philippines (5-0) and Chinese Taipei (4-0). The loss leaves Korea second in the group and North Korea top; North Korea had also won its first two matches.
At the U-17 women’s level between the two nations, South Korea’s record now stands at 1 win, 1 draw and 8 losses. Korea will meet Group B winner Japan in the quarterfinal on the 11th.
Twelve teams are competing in the tournament, and the four semifinalists will qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which kicks off in Morocco in October.
