Ko Ji-won Holds 1-Shot Lead
Yu Hyun-jo 2nd, Kim Min-sol 3rd
Only two players carded 80 or higher in the third round, a steep drop from nine in Round 1 and 16 in Round 2. The cut left mostly players who were striking the ball well, and easier pin placements likely helped scoring.
However, at the DB Women’s Championship (total purse 1.2 billion KRW, approximately $900,000) played May 2 at Rainbow Hills Country Club (par 72) in Eumseong, Chungbuk, only two competitors posted bogey-free rounds in Round 3. Seo Gyo-rim had one birdie with no bogeys, while Kim Su-ji delivered five birdies and no bogeys.
Kim Su-ji’s 5-under 67 was the day’s best score.
She birdied the par-5 seventh after making pars through the first six holes, then rattled off three straight birdies from the par-4 12th through the 14th and added another at the par-5 16th. The 67 vaulted her from a tie for 26th into a tie for sixth at 3-under 213. Kim sits second in greens in regulation (80.55%) thanks to precise iron play, and she finally has a genuine chance to post her best finish of the season.
Ko Ji-won, who began the day with a five-shot advantage, dropped two strokes and now leads by one at 8-under 208, tightening the title race.
Yu Hyun-jo shot 4-under in Round 3 to move into solo second at 7-under 209. Kim Min-sol, who posted a 4-under round, and Thailand’s Battacharajuta Kongkraphan, who shot 3-under, are tied for third at 6-under 210 and will be looking to charge on Sunday.
Lee Da-yeon carded an even-par 72 to move into solo fifth at 4-under 212. Park Hye-jun, Lee Seung-yeon and Han Jin-seon will start the final round tied with Kim Su-ji for sixth. Seo Gyo-rim, despite her bogey-free card, sits tied for 23rd at 3-over 219.
