[MyDaily = Reporter Noh Chan-hyuk] John Stones — a central figure in Manchester City’s golden era — will leave the club this summer.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on the 21st (Korean time) that Stones will depart City as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season.
An England international, Stones primarily plays at center-back. He’s known for his ball-playing ability, defensive reliability, threat on set pieces and aerial dominance.
Stones made his professional debut with Barnsley before joining Everton in 2013. He featured 95 times for Everton through the 2015–16 season, establishing himself as a key defender, and moved to Manchester City in the 2016–17 campaign.

Stones has enjoyed his peak years at City. He has made 292 appearances for the club, scoring 19 goals and adding nine assists, and has helped the team lift 19 trophies — including six Premier League titles and the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League. He was a central figure in City’s first-ever treble that season.
However, Stones has opted to move on this summer. Persistent injuries over the past two seasons limited him to just 35 appearances. With his contract expiring in June, he does not plan to sign a new deal with City.
Romano said that after writing a long chapter in City’s history, Stones is preparing for a new challenge this summer.

That means City will part ways with two club legends this summer. Captain Bernardo Silva is also set to leave after the season — a departure the club confirmed on its website on the 16th.
Serie A clubs have already shown interest in Stones. British outlet YSScore reports he is considering moves in the summer transfer window and has received offers from several Italian clubs.
