[Sports Today reporter Sangpil Lee] StarCraft legends Lee Young-ho and Lee Jae-dong headline the ASL Season 21 round of 24.
SOOP (co-CEOs Choi Young-woo and Lee Min-won) will stage the second week of the ASL Season 21 round of 24 beginning March 30, played on StarCraft: Remastered. ASL Season 21 is SOOP’s flagship original esports league, with Google Play as the official sponsor. Since the tournament opened on March 23, fans have followed the action closely.
In the opening week of the round of 24, six players secured their spots in the round of 16. In Group A, Jeong Yoon-jong (P) returned after a long absence and topped the group, with Jo Ki-seok (T) close behind. Group B saw surprise qualifiers Choi Ho-seon (T) and Kim Tae-young (T) advance together. In Group C, Jo Il-jang (Z) held firm at first, while Yoon Soo-chul (P) earned a milestone entry into his first ASL round of 16 since his debut.
Six remaining spots will be decided across three groups in the round of 24. Group D goes at 7 p.m. on March 30, featuring Lee Jae-ho (T), Kim Yun-hwan (Z), Kim Ji-sung (T) and Park Sung-kyun (T). All eyes will be on Kim Yun-hwan — the lone Zerg among a field of strong Terrans — to see what tactics he uses to find an opening.
Group E follows at 7 p.m. on March 31, pitting Yu Young-jin (T), Im Jin-muk (T), Lee Young-ho (T) and Lee Young-woong (T) against one another. The matchup to watch is the return of Lee Young-ho, nicknamed the \”Final Weapon,\” who is renowned for his dominant Terran-versus-Terran play.
Group F takes place at 7 p.m. on April 1, with Do Jae-wook (P), Shin Sang-moon (T), Kim Myung-woon (Z) and Lee Jae-dong (Z) in what’s being billed as this season’s group of death — an unpredictable and tightly contested slate. Viewers will also be tracking the form of Lee Jae-dong, known as the \”Tyrant.\”
The 12 winners from the round of 24 will join seeded players Park Sang-hyun (Z), Jang Yoon-chul (P), Kim Taek-yong (P) and Hwang Byung-young (T) in the round of 16. The round-of-16 group draw will be held on April 6.
The round of 24 uses a four-player, single-game dual-tournament format. From the quarterfinals onward, matches switch to best-of-seven (first to four wins). Matches will be held offline with a live audience at FreakUp Studio in Daechi-dong, Seoul; on-site tickets go on sale via Ticketlink every Thursday at 5 p.m.
SOOP is also running a match-prediction event for viewers. For full details, see the SOOP ASL official channel. Live broadcasts and VOD for the tournament will be available on the ASL official channel and the SOOP esports page.
