The Gimhae City Sports Council said on March 27 that it held a send-off ceremony and encouragement dinner at the JW Wedding Convention Center on March 26, officially launching full-scale preparations for the tournament.
The four-day competition runs April 17–20 across Haman and Changnyeong counties. Gimhae will field 950 people—648 athletes and 302 officials—to compete in all 36 events (32 official events and four demonstration events).

Roughly 300 people attended the send-off, including Gimhae’s mayor, leaders and members of the city and provincial councils, sports council officials, and representatives from sports organizations. The program opened with the presentation of the team flag and continued with congratulatory remarks, a send-off address and a team oath.
Seo Dong-shin, president of the Gimhae City Sports Council, said, “The strength of Gimhae sports comes from athletes on the ground. Be proud, trust yourselves and compete with confidence. Stay healthy and injury-free, give it your all until the end, and I expect strong results.”
Mayor Hong Tae-yong urged athletes to prioritize safety and health. “Put safety and your health first and enjoy the competition — don’t get hurt,” he said. “The city and its residents will be cheering you on.”
After the send-off, the delegation and officials gathered for an encouragement dinner, where athletes and staff pledged to deliver strong performances across their respective sports.
