[Sports Today reporter Shin Seoyoung] The Samsung Lions escaped with a 4-3 win in a tense one-run game.
Samsung defeated the LG Twins 4-3 in a 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League exhibition at Daegu Samsung Lions Park on March 21.
The victory improved Samsung’s preseason record to 5-4. LG, which failed to extend a three-game winning streak, fell to 4-1-4 (W-T-L).
Starter Hurado picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing five hits (one homer) with four strikeouts and one run.
At the plate, Lee Jae-hyun delivered the go-ahead two-run homer and finished with one hit in two at-bats (one homer), two RBIs, one run and one walk. Kim Seong-yun and Ryu Ji-hyuk each had multi-hit games to bolster the lineup.
LG starter Tolhurst worked four innings, surrendering two hits, issuing three walks and striking out six while allowing one run. Reliever Lee Woo-chan took the loss after getting just one out and giving up three runs on three hits (one homer), one walk and one strikeout in 0.1 innings.
LG struck first with the long ball. In the top of the first, leadoff hitter Park Hae-min drove Hurado’s fifth pitch, a 145 km/h sinker (90 mph), over the fence for a 115 m (377 ft) solo homer to put LG ahead.
Samsung answered in the bottom of the third. With one out and no one on, Ryu Ji-hyuk ripped a triple to left-center off Tolhurst. Back-to-back walks to Kim Ji-chan and Lee Jae-hyun loaded the bases with one out. Kim Seong-yun’s first-pitch infield single brought home Ryu from third to knot the game at 1-1.
Samsung kept the momentum. In the bottom of the fifth, after one out, Kim Ji-chan drew a walk off reliever Lee Woo-chan. Lee Jae-hyun took Lee’s fourth pitch — a 147 km/h fastball (91 mph) — over the left-field wall for a two-run go-ahead homer. Samsung added another run when Kim Seong-yun reached and stole second, setting up Koo Ja-wook’s RBI single to right and a 4-1 lead.
LG rallied in the top of the seventh. Leadoff hitter Oh Ji-hwan reached on a hit-by-pitch from reliever Lee Seung-min, and Moon Seong-ju followed with a single to left to put runners at second and third with no outs. Koo Bon-hyeok then hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Kang Min-gyun, and after Hong Chang-gi drew a walk, Park Hae-min delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-3.
That would be as close as LG would get. Samsung brought in Kim Jae-yoon to close the top of the ninth, and he retired Song Chan-ui, Kim Min-su and Choi Won-young in order to seal the 4-3 victory.
