Is Nick Castellanos Leaving the Philadelphia Phillies? Latest Trade Talks Revealed!

Nick Castellanos’ departure from the Philadelphia Phillies seems increasingly likely.
ESPN reported on January 10th that the Phillies are actively engaged in trade discussions with other teams regarding Castellanos.
The outfielder recently stirred up controversy by strongly opposing manager Rob Thomson’s defensive substitution decisions and displaying inappropriate behavior. This incident brought team conflicts to the forefront, and in September, Castellanos publicly questioned his communication with Thomson.
Dave Dombrowski, Phillies’ president of baseball operations, confirmed, “We’re currently in talks with several teams.” He emphasized that negotiations involving Castellanos are ongoing as spring training approaches.
Last season, Castellanos appeared in 147 games for the NL East champion Phillies, hitting .250 with 17 home runs and 72 RBIs. He’s now entering the final year of his five-year, 100 million USD (approximately 133.3 billion KRW) contract.

The Phillies signed Adolis García to a one-year deal in December, suggesting he’s likely to take over as the team’s right fielder for the upcoming season.
Phillies pitchers and catchers are set to begin their first spring training workout on February 11th, with position players joining for full squad workouts on the 16th.
If Castellanos’ trade or release isn’t finalized, all eyes will be on whether he reports to camp by the time the full squad assembles. Dombrowski stated, “We’ll continue negotiations to the best of our ability until that time.”
In other news, Phillies ace Zack Wheeler is expected to participate in spring training but is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. He’s recovering from surgery to remove a blood clot in his right arm, making his availability for the season opener doubtful.
Manager Rob Thomson reported, “Wheeler’s rehab is progressing well, and his return shouldn’t be too far off.”
Before his injury, Wheeler was dominating the league with 195 strikeouts. The right-hander, who started on Opening Day for the past two seasons, posted a 10-5 record with a 2.71 ERA last year.
