Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has been handed a four-match suspension following his recent red card.
Tottenham announced on their official website that Romero, who was sent off in the recent match against Manchester United, will be sidelined for four games.
The club noted that this additional punishment stems from Romero’s previous red card earlier this season.
Romero started in the away fixture against Manchester United on February 7 but saw red after a reckless challenge on Casemiro.
This marks Romero’s second dismissal of the season, following a red card against Liverpool in December. It’s his sixth sending-off since joining Tottenham in 2021.
The Argentine defender will miss Tottenham’s upcoming home game against Newcastle, the North London derby against Arsenal, and matches against Fulham and Crystal Palace. His suspension will keep him out of action for approximately a month.
Romero’s absence is a significant blow for Tottenham. As the team’s captain and a key figure in defense, his suspension will undoubtedly impact the squad’s tactical approach.
Tottenham currently sit 15th in the Premier League with 7 wins, 8 draws, and 10 losses (29 points). They’re only six points clear of 18th-placed West Ham (23 points), leaving them perilously close to the relegation zone.
