[Incheon – By Kim Hee-soo, My Daily Reporter] Both teams have clear objectives and know exactly what they need to do.
Korean Air and Woori Card are set to clash on February 10 at the Incheon Gyeyang Gymnasium in a pivotal Round 5 match of the Jin Air 2025-2026 V-League men’s division. Each team must defeat their opponent to achieve their respective goals.
Korean Air is embroiled in a fierce battle with Hyundai Capital for the top spot. Following Hyundai Capital’s shutout victory against KB Insurance on February 9, they reached 54 points and overtook Korean Air for first place, having played one more game. A win for Korean Air in this match would propel them back to the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, Woori Card’s playoff dreams, once seemingly out of reach, are now coming into focus. Their recent shutout win against Hyundai Capital boosted their points to 35, leaving them just 8 points behind third-place Korea Electric Power. The gap is no longer insurmountable. A 3-point victory in this match would narrow their deficit to fifth-place KB Insurance to a mere 2 points.
With Korean Air aiming to reclaim the top spot and Woori Card targeting a playoff berth, both teams have clear challenges ahead. Korean Air must improve their finishing in prime scoring opportunities, while Woori Card needs to find ways to outmaneuver the opposing blockers more effectively.
The key metrics for these challenges are identical: the number of opposing blockers faced and the resulting attack success rate. In their last four encounters, Korean Air attempted 16 attacks in no-block situations, 4 more than Woori Card’s 12. However, Korean Air faced only 18 three-block situations, compared to Woori Card’s 29 – a difference of 11. This suggests that Han Seon-su and Yoo Kwang-woo were significantly more effective at evading blockers than Han Tae-jun and Lee Seung-won.

Yet, the subsequent attack success rates tell a different story. Korean Air’s success rate of 56.25% in no-block situations and 67.37% in one-block situations both trail Woori Card’s figures (58.33% and 68.09% respectively). To control the match, it’s crucial to capitalize on opportunities when blockers are evaded. Korean Air needs to sharpen their focus in these situations.
Conversely, Woori Card has shown less finesse in initially evading blockers compared to Korean Air. Given their physical disadvantage and less cohesive lineup, Woori Card can’t rely on brute force. Instead, they must maximize the potential of their quick attackers, Rafael Araújo (registered as Araújo) and Lee Sang-hyun, by finding ways to bypass the opposing blockers. This puts added pressure on setters Han Tae-jun and Lee Seung-won.
The question remains: which team will address their key challenge first? Will it be Korean Air’s finishing prowess or Woori Card’s setting strategy? The outcome of the match likely hinges on this crucial factor.
