The Kakao branch of the National Union of Chemical, Textile and Food Industry Workers plans to stage a march and rally around Pangyo Station in Seongnam on June 10, signaling the start of full-scale collective action. Industry sources in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector say the union expects roughly 1,200 participants.On May 27, mediation at the Gyeonggi Regional Labor Commission continued until 11 p.m., but the commission suspended talks after the parties failed to reach an agreement. Following that deadlock, the Kakao headquarters union secured strike authorization for itself and four affiliates — Kakao Pay, Kakao Enterprise, DK Techin and XL Games.On May 28, the union issued a statement saying it will move forward with preparations for a strike while keeping the door to dialogue open. The statement said the union will not completely rule out talks after mediation was suspended, but that continued waiting and patience alone cannot resolve the dispute, and it will therefore actively prepare for a June strike with its membership.The union characterized the suspension of mediation as evidence that trust between the company and its employees has collapsed.
