[Herald Economy = Reporter Hong Seok-hee] The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation received the Choa Volunteer Award in recognition of its work supporting regional cooperation and vulnerable groups in the Daegu–Gyeongbuk area.

The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation announced on the 27th that it received the public-service volunteer award at the 3rd Choa Volunteer Awards, held on the 25th at the EXCO Convention Hall in Daegu.

The Choa Volunteer Award, jointly organized by Rotary International District 3700 and TBC Daegu Broadcasting, honors individuals and organizations that have devoted themselves to the development of the Daegu–Gyeongbuk region and practiced community service.

As a public institution based in Daegu Innovation City, the corporation was recognized for its community-centered social contribution efforts. Drawing on voluntary employee participation, it identified three core missions—responding to climate and disaster risks, promoting regional cooperation, and supporting vulnerable populations—and implemented related programs.

In the climate and disaster response area, employees raised funds and took part in on-site recovery efforts after a major wildfire struck North Gyeongsang Province. The corporation also partnered with related organizations, including SK Innovation E&S and Yeongnam Energy, to establish carbon sinks within regional industrial complexes.

The corporation sustained its regional cooperation initiatives. Labor and management converted unused space in Dong-gu, Daegu, into the \”Safe Love Garden\” and a mural street to improve living conditions. They also organized healing tours of traditional markets and pop-up markets for small businesses to help revitalize local commerce.

To support vulnerable groups, the corporation collaborated with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on baking volunteer programs for disadvantaged children. Through employee-funded donations, it also provides monthly scholarships to children from single-parent and low-income households in Daegu and Gyeongbuk.

The corporation plans to allocate the full 5,000,000 KRW (about $3,750 USD) prize from this award to social contribution programs that support vulnerable residents in the region.

Lee Sang-hoon, chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, said, \”This award reflects the sincere commitment of our employees, who treated the community’s hardships as their own and joined in sharing.\” He added, \”We will continue to listen to voices on the ground and fulfill our social responsibility as a trusted partner of the Daegu–Gyeongbuk region.\”
