A hiking video filmed on Wonmi Mountain in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province has sparked controversy online after a clip showing an elderly man making inappropriate remarks to women circulated on social media.
On April 25, posts on online communities noted that the hiking YouTube channel ‘A Million Song-hee in the Mountains’, which has about 330,000 subscribers, uploaded a video shot on April 2. The footage shows the vlogger and his younger sister resting during a hike when an elderly man approaches and sits beside them.
After he sat down, the man asked, “How old are you?” and said, “You’re pretty.” When the women answered, “Thirty,” he referenced his daughter’s age and kept the conversation going. He then suddenly and repeatedly asked, “Can I be your boyfriend?” When the women asked who he meant, he replied, “Me.”
The women, visibly unsettled, said, “That’s difficult,” and walked away. Afterwards they said they initially thought they had misheard and expressed discomfort.
The clip quickly spread online under headlines such as “elderly man approaches women while hiking,” prompting some online users to criticize the behavior as inappropriate and to voice indignation.
Meanwhile, recent online posts describing near-miss crime incidents involving women hiking alone have amplified concerns about safety.
