[Herald Economy — Reporter Ahn Hyo-jung] The Ministry of Employment and Labor has called the assault on a foreign worker at a bedding factory in Incheon a serious human-rights violation and launched an emergency special inspection on the 25th, one day after the incident.
The Central Regional Employment and Labor Office’s Incheon Northern Branch formed a dedicated team and immediately began an urgent inspection to establish the facts and implement protective measures for the victim.
Officials will also examine whether the company violated the Industrial Safety and Health Act, investigating the assault and workplace harassment of foreign workers as well as any failures to carry out required safety and health measures.
The ministry said it will take stern action, including pursuing criminal charges, for violations of labor laws such as assault, harassment, and serious accidents, and will consider canceling or restricting the employer’s authorization to hire foreign workers.
With the victim’s consent, authorities will provide shelter and other protective services and will initiate the process to transfer the worker to a different workplace.
Minister Kim Young-hoon said, “The assault shown in the video goes beyond a violation of labor rights — it is a serious human-rights abuse and a criminal act. Through this inspection, we will thoroughly investigate the facts, take strict action against legal violations, and do everything necessary to protect the victim.”
