[CBC News] One wolf escaped near downtown Daejeon, prompting growing concerns about public safety. Daejeon municipal authorities sent an emergency alert on the 8th to inform residents of the escape and to urge caution.
City officials said that morning one wolf housed at O-World in Daejeon left its enclosure and moved outside. Authorities are currently conducting a search for the animal.
The city’s emergency alert said the wolf was last seen heading toward the O-World intersection and warned nearby residents to remain vigilant. A follow-up message asked anyone who spots the animal to report it immediately and stressed the importance of public cooperation.
The incident has raised alarm because it occurred at a tourist facility adjacent to the city center. O-World typically draws many family visitors and is close to residential neighborhoods and schools, which has heightened concern about potential danger.
Authorities are coordinating with police and fire departments to track the wolf’s movements and to mount a capture operation. Officials warned that wolves are wild animals that can act unpredictably, and that approaching the animal is extremely dangerous.
Nearby residents briefly stayed indoors, and some paused walking their pets as a voluntary safety measure.
The incident has renewed calls for a review of zoo safety protocols and animal-management systems.
