The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on March 22 that it will urgently provide Daedeok District with 70 million KRW (approximately USD 52,500) in disaster relief funds to support victims and bereaved families affected by the factory fire that broke out on March 20 in Daedeok District, Daejeon.
The ministry said the funds will cover support for bereaved families, including temporary lodging and relief supplies, and will back volunteers’ on-site relief efforts. The money will also be used to cover operating costs for the Central Joint Disaster Victim Support Center established to assist those affected.
The Victim Support Center is jointly run by 32 agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety; the Ministry of Employment and Labor; the Ministry of Health and Welfare; the Ministry of Climate; the National Forensic Service; the General Insurance Association of Korea; and the Korea Legal Aid Corporation.
Kim Gwang-yong, head of the ministry’s Disaster and Safety Management Bureau, said, “We will work with local governments to provide swift relief to the fire victims and bereaved families and ensure they receive comprehensive administrative support.”
