[Anchor] Both major parties, which had pledged to campaign aggressively through midnight tomorrow (June 2), paused their activities after reports of casualties from an explosion in Daejeon. In a subdued atmosphere, party leaders promised active support to help contain the situation quickly. Yang Sori reports. [Reporter] In the campaign’s final stretch, the parties’ campaign chairs had been traveling to Chungcheong and Jeju. After the Hanwha Aerospace accident in Daejeon, both sides halted public rallies. Campaign chairs Jung Cheong-rae and Jang Dong-hyeok canceled their afternoon schedules. Democratic Party campaign chair Jung instructed candidates and campaign staff nationwide to “suspend all rallies until further notice.” He said that in the face of a major disaster, standing with victims’ families matters far more than campaigning, and he added he would go to the scene immediately to assess the situation. Jang, who had been visiting Jeju for the first time during the campaign, ordered teams to conduct calm, low-key campaigning and rushed to Daejeon. On social media he wrote, “I hope the government acts swiftly to manage the accident and repair the damage. The People Power Party will not withhold necessary support.” Earlier in the campaign’s closing days, party leaders concentrated on winning over undecided voters. The Democratic Party criticized former presidents aligned with the People Power Party who have reemerged on the campaign trail, calling them “embers of insurrection,” and focused on mobilizing its base. 「Jung Cheong-rae / Democratic Party, Campaign Chair」 “If we don’t fully extinguish the embers of insurrection, they could flare up into a larger blaze. Please vote out of patriotism.” The People Power Party appealed for voters to use their ballots to rebuke what it called the Democratic Party’s recklessness. 「Jang Dong-hyeok / People Power Party, Campaign Chair」 “To protect people’s lives, I believe voters must deliver a stern judgment against the arrogance of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the Democratic Party.” With the sudden accident, campaign jingles and choreographed routines were suspended. Party leaders who visited the Daejeon site are expected to monitor recovery efforts closely and then determine their final campaign strategy. This is Yang Sori of Yonhap News TV.

MaaS(Mobility as a Service)
