[Herald Economy (Andong)=Reporter Kim Byung-jin] The People Power Party’s North Gyeongsang provincial chapter held a launch ceremony for its campaign committee in the party auditorium on the 12th, kicking off a focused drive to win the June 3 local elections.
The event drew a large turnout from party leaders and National Assembly members from Daegu and North Gyeongsang (the TK region), including gubernatorial candidate Lee Cheol-woo, Daegu mayoral candidate Chu Kyung-ho, and party leader Jang Dong-hyuk.
In his opening remarks, Lee Cheol-woo recalled a recent visit to former President Park Geun-hye with Chu Kyung-ho and committee chairs Gu Ja-geun and Lee In-sun, during which Park urged them to “attend to each person with care.” Lee called on the campaign to treat every voter with that same attention and to secure victory.
Jang Dong-hyuk, leader of the People Power Party, described the nominations as a “solemn mandate to defend the party and the Republic of Korea,” and urged everyone to unite behind Lee Cheol-woo, who has stood by the party through its most difficult moments.
Jeong Hee-yong, the party’s secretary-general, said the election will determine who is best suited to protect people’s livelihoods. He called for the party to come together as one team to hold the Democratic Party administration to account and pledged to lead the effort to build momentum, especially in Goryeong, Seongju and Chilgok.
Gu Ja-geun, chair of the North Gyeongsang provincial chapter, urged campaign workers to avoid mistakes on the ground and to convey urgency, resolve and humility to voters. He called on the party leadership and Lee Cheol-woo to join forces to generate momentum that will spread beyond Daegu to the Busan–Ulsan–Gyeongnam region and then nationwide.
Lee In-sun, head of the Daegu city party, said Daegu and North Gyeongsang are the heartland of the conservative right and the center of South Korea, and urged the region to unite to lead the People Power Party to victory.
At the close of the launch, Daegu mayoral candidate Chu Kyung-ho took the podium to thank the party leadership and his North Gyeongsang colleagues for their enthusiastic support. “Daegu and North Gyeongsang are already one team,” he said. “Let’s win a landslide for the People Power Party in this election and together lead a second leap forward for the region.”
