Lee Jang-woo, the People Power Party’s Daejeon mayoral hopeful, has assembled a large campaign committee and moved into full campaign mode.
On the 1st, he announced the launch of the “Greater Daejeon” campaign committee and presented appointment letters to the first slate of 792 appointees.
He said, “This campaign committee is not merely an election organization; it is an executive body to design and realize Daejeon’s future,” adding, “We have gathered experts from across fields to sustain momentum based on the achievements of the past four years.”
The committee includes experts and local figures in areas such as livelihoods, the economy, and science and technology. It also brings together a diverse cross-section of residents, including young people, women, and small-business owners.
The campaign appointed Lee Sang-rae, chair of the Dong-gu party association; Lee Taek-gu, chair of the Yuseong-gap party association; Choi Sun-hee, former head of the Daejeon Lifelong Education Promotion Institute; and Choi Seong-ah, former deputy mayor for political, economic and scientific affairs, as co-chief campaign chairs. Han Pyung-yong, chairman of Cheongpung, will serve as chief advisory chair, and lawyers Kim So-yeon and Choi Seong-ah will jointly lead the legal support team.
In policy areas, Professor Choi Ho-taek of Paichai University will chair the policy advisory committee, and Lee Hyun-seok, head of the youth small-business advisory group, will lead the youth committee. The Future Generations Committee will operate with multiple co-chairs. The campaign also formed detailed subgroups, including a beauty industry committee and other policy advisory panels.
He warned, “Daejeon stands at a crossroads: will we finish what we started or reverse course?” and stressed, “The next four years will be a period to prove results. The campaign committee will take the lead and work with citizens to deliver those results.”
Meanwhile, the campaign plans to roll out people-centered pledges and pair those announcements with on-the-ground activities as it competes on policy.
