Translation resultAs the June 3 local elections approach, Jeong Mugwon, the Democratic Party candidate for Miryang’s 1st district in South Gyeongsang Province, launched his campaign by unveiling policy pledges spanning industry, energy, tourism and cultural heritage.
Jeong said, “I will lead decisive change in Miryang,” and laid out a comprehensive vision that includes attracting advanced industries, securing farmers’ incomes, revitalizing the local economy and projecting the city’s historical and cultural assets onto the global stage.

In a press release on the 24th, he urged fast-tracking phase two of the national nano-convergence industrial complex and proposed a “Gyeongnam-style energy model.” The plan calls for agrivoltaic pilot sites on idle industrial parcels and nearby farmland to boost farm revenues while simultaneously expanding renewable energy capacity.
He also proposed creating a “Gyeongnam sports-tourism belt,” which would include dedicated athlete housing and upgraded facilities to attract national-level competitions. By securing national and provincial funding, Jeong said the initiative would support destination-based sports marketing and generate tangible spillover effects for traditional markets and the broader local economy.
Jeong additionally pledged to elevate Miryang’s Uiyeol Memorial Park to a provincial historical park and promote it internationally. He intends to secure provincial budget support, reinforce the site’s standing as a landmark of the independence movement and increase inbound tourism.
“I will bring South Gyeongsang’s budget to Miryang and bring Miryang’s vision to the provincial government,” Jeong said, emphasizing his commitment to lead local development and drive concrete change.
