Pakistan plans to host a four-party meeting, inviting Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey to help resolve the war in the Middle East.
AFP reported on the 28th (local time) that Pakistan will hold the talks on the 30th to address the U.S.-Iran conflict.
A Pakistani Foreign Ministry official said the meeting is scheduled for Monday and that delegations are expected to arrive in Islamabad by tomorrow evening.
Pakistan has served as a key mediator between the U.S. and Iran.
Analysts note that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief of Staff Munir are reported to have close ties with President Donald Trump—ties cited as underpinning Pakistan’s mediator role.
The four-party talks are expected to focus on creating conditions for direct negotiations between the U.S. and Iran.
Earlier, President Donald Trump extended the deadline for strikes on Iranian energy facilities to the 6th of next month, leaving room for negotiations.
