[The Fact | Busan = Park Ho-kyung, reporter] Oh Eun-taek, a member of the People Power Party, has officially declared his candidacy for re-election as mayor of Busan’s Nam-gu district.

During a press conference held in the Busan City Council briefing room on the morning of the 10th, Oh stated, “Nam-gu now needs someone who can build upon our past achievements and take them to the next level.” With this, he formally announced his re-election campaign.

Oh emphasized, “Administration should be continuous, not disjointed. The results built on this process should directly benefit residents’ lives.” He added, “Politics shouldn’t be judged by grand rhetoric. Administration must consistently and calmly protect residents’ lives, regardless of circumstances.”

He continued, “The district office should not be a center of controversy, but rather an administrative hub that quietly yet firmly maintains residents’ daily lives.” Oh pledged, “I will deliver results rather than promises, action rather than declarations, and an administration that improves day by day.”

Reflecting on his current term, Oh described it as a period of solidifying administrative basics and establishing stability. Looking ahead, he proposed ‘policy enhancement’ as the administrative direction for his potential next term.

Mayor Oh committed, “We will strengthen our finances, increase administrative transparency, and refine our policies.” He promised to create policies that don’t just end with declarations but naturally integrate into the lives of Nam-gu residents, producing tangible results.

In conclusion, Oh stated, “I will fulfill my responsibilities as a mayor who makes decisive choices upfront while safeguarding residents’ daily lives behind the scenes.” He emphasized his goal to “create change rooted in trust, fostering quiet yet substantial transformations alongside our residents.”

However, Oh’s early declaration, even before the People Power Party’s nomination process has begun, has sparked speculation. Some interpret it as an attempt to address recent internal issues within the district office, including allegations of improper directives and power abuse, as well as his reportedly strained relationship with Park Soo-young, a People Power Party member and the district party chair.

Addressing the union’s allegations, Mayor Oh stated, “There are some misunderstandings,” and assured that he is working to resolve these issues through proper channels.

Regarding his relationship with Representative Park, Oh said, “I’ve already informed Representative Park Soo-young of my intention to run for re-election.” He added, “I will abide by the party’s decision,” and confirmed he has no plans to run as an independent candidate.
