[iNews24 Reporter Park Chae-o] On February 10, Oh Eun-taek, the mayor of Busan’s Nam-gu district, officially announced his bid for re-election.
During a press conference held in the Busan City Council briefing room that morning, Oh stated, “Nam-gu needs someone who can build upon our past achievements and take them to the next level.”
He emphasized the importance of administrative continuity, saying, “Governance isn’t about disruption, but continuity. The results of our efforts should directly benefit our residents’ lives.” Oh added, “In any situation, administration must steadily and consistently protect the well-being of our citizens.”

He continued, “While the 8th elected term focused on establishing administrative foundations and safety measures, the 9th term will prioritize policy refinement.” Oh emphasized, “Instead of simply making new promises, we aim to enhance and perfect our existing policies and projects.”
“We will strive for greater transparency in administration and more sophisticated policies,” Oh declared. “As mayor, I will lead decisively while ensuring the protection of our residents’ daily lives, fulfilling my responsibilities to the very end.”
Political observers note that Oh Eun-taek’s official candidacy announcement is unusual, as incumbent mayors typically don’t make such declarations.
In fact, Oh is the first incumbent mayor from the People Power Party in the Busan area to officially announce his re-election bid.
Local political analysts speculate that this move aims to address recent controversies and rally conservative support in the region.
Responding to personnel issues raised by the union, Oh stated, “Some aspects have been misrepresented. We’re verifying the facts through proper channels and working to resolve these issues.”
Regarding his relationship with Park Soo-young, the party’s district committee chair, Oh mentioned, “I’ve already informed Representative Park of my intention to run for re-election. I’ll abide by the party’s decision,” indicating he won’t run as an independent candidate.
Addressing health concerns, he assured, “My health does not impede my ability to perform my duties effectively.”
