Volvo Cars Korea officially launched the EX90, its electric flagship SUV, in the domestic market on April 1. The model is priced from ₩106.2 million (≈ $79,650), about ₩10 million (≈ $7,500) less than the previous flagship XC90’s plug‑in hybrid lead model. Volvo Cars Korea said the EX90’s competitiveness and product strengths position it to lead the country’s premium electric vehicle segment.

The powertrain pairs CATL’s 106 kWh NCM battery with a next‑generation twin‑motor setup. The EX90 uses an 800‑volt architecture and supports up to 350 kW fast charging, taking about 22 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. Range reaches up to 625 km (about 388 miles) on the WLTP cycle; domestic certification is under way. The top trim, Twin Motor Performance, produces 680 horsepower and 92.8 kg·m of torque (≈ 672 lb‑ft) and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds.

Safety systems include five cameras, five radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors to monitor exterior conditions. Inside, the EX90 features driver monitoring and occupant detection. Battery protection includes thermal‑runaway detection sensors and pyrotechnic fuses that disconnect electrical connections, and the vehicle’s safety cage increases torsional rigidity by 50% compared with the XC90.

◆ Built on Volvo’s Huginn Core for full SDV shift… prices start at ₩106.2 million (≈ $79,650)

The EX90 is built around Volvo’s in‑house Huginn Core central computer, creating a software‑defined vehicle (SDV) architecture that lets the automaker keep key functions—infotainment and driving features—current via over‑the‑air (OTA) updates. Korean models come standard with the T map infotainment service and the Naver Whale browser.

Volvo offers three trims based on options and powertrain. All prices below are for the seven‑seat configuration: Twin Motor Plus starts at ₩106.2 million (≈ $79,650), Twin Motor Ultra at ₩116.2 million (≈ $87,150) and Twin Motor Performance Ultra at ₩121.2 million (≈ $90,900). For an additional ₩2.0 million (≈ $1,500), the Ultra trim can be specified as a six‑seat layout with independent second‑row seats. Ultra models also come standard with Bowers & Wilkins audio and a two‑chamber air suspension.

Volvo Cars Korea said it is offering one of the most competitively priced EX90s globally and emphasized that buyers can get a class‑competitive EV with a broad suite of standard convenience features at prices comparable to internal‑combustion models from Volvo and rival brands.

Asked about Volvo Cars Korea’s business plans, CEO Lee Yun‑mo said the company had struggled to top established premium brands in the internal‑combustion market—especially the German trio—but sees an opportunity in EVs. “In the EV market we aim to lead each segment with highly competitive, well‑engineered models,” he said. Lee added that Volvo Cars Korea has been selling about 15,000 vehicles annually for the past two years and plans to scale to 30,000 units a year as soon as possible, with a target of more than 10% share of the premium EV market.

Volvo Cars Korea began accepting preorders for the EX90 on March 24 and plans full customer deliveries in the third and fourth quarters after certification completes. The company also plans to launch the electric flagship sedan ES90 in the second half of the year.
