A revolutionary new player has entered the family car market, previously dominated by domestic SUVs.

The Renault Filante has been crowned the February 2026 Car of the Month by the Korea Automobile Journalists Association (KAJA).
It has decisively claimed the top spot, outperforming strong contenders like the Kia Seltos and Genesis GV60 Magma, earning high praise from experts who consider it a frontrunner for Car of the Year.

Rivaling the GV80 in size, the Filante stands out as the hybrid powerhouse in its class.
Its most significant advantage is its overwhelming product appeal, which makes domestic SUVs pale in comparison.
With an impressive length of 4,915mm, it matches the Genesis GV80’s stature and features a 1.5-liter turbo engine combined with high-performance dual motors, delivering a total output of 250 horsepower.

This performance surpasses that of the Santa Fe and Sorento hybrids, achieving a remarkable combined fuel efficiency of 15.1km/L despite its large crossover size.
The vehicle has particularly impressed experts with its energy efficiency and safety features, earning it a direct pass to the first round of the Korea Car of the Year (K-COTY) final judging.

Stepping into the future: A revolution in interior design
Upon entering the cabin, one can’t help but feel like they’ve stepped into a spaceship.
Renault has ambitiously crafted an interior based on the “Premium Tech Lounge” concept, featuring an impressive “openR panoramic screen” that seamlessly connects three 12.3-inch displays.
This expansive display, extending to the passenger seat, delivers a visual impact unseen in existing domestic SUVs.

The vehicle’s space utilization is equally groundbreaking.
With a generous 2,820mm wheelbase, it offers an impressive 320mm of rear knee room. This feature is a crucial selling point for families, positioning the Filante as a strong alternative to the Palisade.
Additionally, it comes standard with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), achieving a level of quietness comparable to premium sedans.

Online reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as, “If auto journalists chose this over Genesis, it must be impressive,” “With this size and interior for around 43 million KRW (about 32,250 USD), canceling my Sorento order seems like the right move,” and “In terms of design, this is Renault’s best effort yet.”
Editor’s Take: There’s a clear reason why experts unanimously selected it as the Car of the Month. While priced slightly higher than the Sorento at around 43 million KRW (about 32,250 USD), its combination of spaciousness and premium performance makes it a smart choice for those seeking a Genesis-level experience at a more accessible price point.
