Consumer interest in the BMW Driving Center, situated near Incheon International Airport, continues to grow, reports Sisa Week journalist Min Je-gal. The center on Yeongjong Island has become a popular destination for a day out, offering more than just a driving track. It’s a comprehensive theme park featuring exhibition spaces, children’s educational areas, dining facilities, and sports parks.
The BMW Driving Center, a joint venture between BMW Korea and BMW Group, opened its doors on August 22, 2014. Its launch was a significant event in the domestic automotive industry, capturing the attention of both industry insiders and consumers.
While several car brands now operate driving centers and tracks, BMW’s initiative was groundbreaking. It was the first to establish such a facility in Korea, even before domestic manufacturers, which drew considerable attention.
Moreover, it became the third BMW Driving Center globally, following Germany and the United States, and claimed the title of Asia’s first. Notably, it opened in Korea before other Asian countries, including China, despite its larger imported car market.
Now in its 12th year, the BMW Driving Center has been operating at a loss of billions of KRW annually for over a decade. Nevertheless, BMW Group Korea maintains its operations as part of its corporate social responsibility. The center’s consistent operation has led to a steady increase in visitors, earning a reputation among consumers as a cost-effective track experience and a prime tourist spot in the metropolitan area. The Yeongjong Island facility is particularly praised for offering more affordable track driving experiences compared to its counterparts in Germany and the United States.

The BMW Driving Center welcomed 178,482 visitors last year, marking a 13.7% increase from 156,951 in 2022. By the end of last year, the cumulative visitor count reached approximately 1.8 million. Given current trends, it’s projected to exceed 2 million by year-end or early next year. Additionally, over 280,000 customers have participated in driving programs to date.
While the overall visitor count of 1.8 million is impressive, the number of driving program participants seems slightly lower in comparison. However, this disparity highlights the unique appeal of the Yeongjong Island facility.
The Incheon Yeongjong Island BMW Driving Center stands out as the only BMW Group facility worldwide that combines a driving track with extensive customer experience amenities. It’s not just a place to drive; it’s a comprehensive automotive cultural space with vehicle exhibitions, children’s programs, and dining options, catering to all ages.
The center has seen an uptick in family visits, largely due to its children’s programs. The Junior Campus, run by the BMW Korea Future Foundation, offers elementary students a creative science education. It teaches automotive design and engineering principles through hands-on activities like building eco-friendly car models. As of May last year, 110,000 children had participated in this program.
The center also features new car displays for BMW and Mini, a branded merchandise store, and a track-view restaurant, allowing families to spend an entire day exploring, learning, and dining.

The facility also houses a service center, the BMW Charging Station for electric vehicles, and offers an Airport Service.
This Airport Service is a premium offering for BMW and Mini owners. For a fee, customers flying out of Incheon International Airport can leave their vehicles at the center for up to five days. The service includes indoor car washing, fluid top-ups, consumable replacements, and round-trip airport shuttles. It’s popular among BMW and Mini drivers for its convenience and value, eliminating airport parking hassles.
In essence, the Yeongjong Island BMW Driving Center is more than just a track experience. It’s a multifaceted facility offering new car showcases, family activities, dining options, and travel services, making it a compelling destination.
BMW Group Korea recently renewed its operating contract with Incheon International Airport Corporation for the center. The new lease runs from January 2025 through December 2029, with a potential extension of up to 10 years. This agreement underscores BMW Group’s long-term commitment to the Korean market.
A BMW Group Korea spokesperson stated, “Our Driving Center offers specialized programs where visitors can hone their driving skills safely under expert guidance, truly experiencing BMW’s ‘joy of driving’ philosophy. We aim to further establish the center as a key hub for advancing Korea’s automotive culture and enhancing customer brand experiences.”
