2026 Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck: Unveiling the Future of Hydrogen-Powered Freight with Michelin X Line Energy Tires

Michelin announced on February 10 that it will supply original equipment (OE) tires for Hyundai Motor’s hydrogen-powered truck, ‘The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck.’ As part of the collaboration between the two companies, vehicles exported to the European market from early 2026 will be equipped with MICHELIN X Line Energy tires.

Hyundai’s New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck is a heavy-duty commercial vehicle featuring a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and a 350 kW drive motor. This truck stands out for its impressive range of over 720 kilometers (447 miles) on a single charge when fully loaded.

The model integrates Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell platform with ‘Super Drive,’ a Level 4 autonomous driving system developed by PlusAI, a U.S.-based autonomous software company. This combination enhances transportation efficiency and safety by leveraging autonomous driving technology alongside the hydrogen vehicle’s advantages in charging speed and range. Recently, TIME magazine recognized this vehicle as one of the ‘Best Inventions of 2025.’

Selected as OE tires, the MICHELIN X Line Energy line is designed for long-haul transportation efficiency. These tires achieved the top ‘A’ rating in European rolling resistance classification, thanks to a low rolling resistance compound and durable carcass technology. Michelin claims these tires contribute to improved fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions in commercial vehicles by minimizing energy loss during operation.

Michelle Zhu, CEO of Michelin Korea, stated, “Supplying tires for Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell truck is a significant milestone for Michelin as we aim for carbon neutrality by 2050.” She added, “We will continue to offer solutions that balance economic viability, environmental sustainability, and safety in response to technological advancements in the commercial vehicle sector.”

Michelin reports that it has incorporated cutting-edge technologies, such as self-repairing treads, to extend tire life and ensure consistent safety throughout the tire’s lifespan. This supply agreement is seen as a strategic move by both companies to maximize the efficiency of eco-friendly transportation solutions, aligning with the growing hydrogen commercial vehicle market.
