Michelin has announced it will supply original equipment (OE) tires for Hyundai Motor’s ‘The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck.’
Beginning in early 2026, Hyundai’s ‘The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck’ destined for European markets will be equipped with MICHELIN X Line Energy tires as standard.
‘The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck’ is Hyundai’s heavy-duty commercial vehicle powered by a 180 kW hydrogen fuel cell system and a 350 kW drive motor. It boasts an impressive range of over 720 km (447 miles) on a single charge when fully loaded. This truck combines Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell platform with ‘Super Drive,’ a Level 4 autonomous driving software developed by American firm Plus AI. This integration enhances the vehicle’s eco-friendly features, such as rapid refueling, long-range capability, and zero-emission operation, while significantly improving transport efficiency and safety. Recently, it earned a spot on Time magazine’s ‘Best Inventions of 2025’ list.
The ‘MICHELIN X Line Energy’ tire is engineered for long-haul transport, offering exceptional fuel efficiency and durability that help reduce operating costs for fleet operators. These tires feature a compound that delivers ultra-low rolling resistance and robust carcass technology, achieving Europe’s top A-grade rolling resistance rating. By minimizing energy loss during operation, they improve fuel economy in commercial vehicles, leading to reduced fuel costs and lower carbon emissions. Moreover, the tire’s sturdy construction and self-regenerating tread pattern incorporate cutting-edge technology to ensure longevity and maintain safe driving performance throughout its lifespan.
Michelle Zhu, CEO of Michelin Korea, commented, “Supplying tires for Hyundai Motor’s cutting-edge hydrogen fuel cell truck, a pioneer in the global hydrogen industry, marks a significant milestone for Michelin. As a company long committed to energy efficiency and sustainable energy transition, with a goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, we’re proud of this partnership. Michelin continues to adapt to the evolving technologies in the commercial vehicle sector, offering solutions and services that deliver outstanding performance, energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability, all while prioritizing safety.”
