[iNews24 reporter Seol Rae-on] U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly keeping a sealed letter for Vice President J.D. Vance in the Oval Office’s Resolute Desk to be used if he is assassinated.

On May 19 (local time), Fox News and other outlets reported that Sebastian Gorka, a former deputy assistant on the White House National Security Council, said the letter exists on the “Pod Force One” podcast.
Asked about the risk of hostile actors targeting Trump while he travels overseas, Gorka said the president had placed a contingency letter for Vice President J.D. Vance inside the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.
The Resolute Desk is the symbolic desk used by the U.S. president.
In response to Gorka’s remarks, a White House spokesperson pointed to comments Trump made in a January interview with NewsNation.
In that interview, when asked to imagine Iran attempting to assassinate him, Trump said “clear guidance is already in place.”

Trump has faced multiple assassination threats both before and after taking office. In July of last year, a bullet fired at a campaign rally grazed his right ear. In September, authorities arrested a man who had been hiding in brush near Trump National Golf Club in Florida and aiming a rifle.
Analysts say concerns about his personal security intensified after armed clashes with Iran in February, which stoked tensions domestically and internationally.
On April 25, gunman Cole Thomas Allen attempted to enter the White House correspondents’ dinner but was subdued at the scene. The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged that recent U.S. military actions related to Iran may have influenced his motive.
