Hanwha Aerospace unveiled an advanced unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) lineup, including the multipurpose Arion‑SMET, the upgraded GRUNT, and the tracked THeMIS‑K developed in cooperation with Estonia’s Milrem Robotics.
On May 12, a day before the public opening, the company staged a demonstration for Romanian military officials showcasing MUM‑T (manned‑unmanned teaming) operations using GRUNT and THeMIS‑K.
The demonstration highlighted combined missions such as reconnaissance and resupply and showcased cooperative manned‑unmanned employment concepts, drawing strong interest from local defense representatives.
Hanwha Aerospace also put on display several firepower and air-defense systems, including the K9A1 self‑propelled howitzer, the Chunmoo multiple‑launch guided rocket system, the long‑range surface‑to‑air guided weapon L‑SAM, and the short‑range air‑defense system H‑SHORAD.
Hanwha Systems showcased an AI‑based satellite imagery analysis solution capable of identifying targets such as aircraft, vehicles and trains, and of assessing damage after natural disasters.
The company also revealed a next‑generation mine countermeasure system that pairs an AI‑based Smart Battleship (SBS) capability with autonomous navigation to detect and neutralize naval mines.
A Hanwha spokesperson said the company plans to address regional security needs by leveraging advanced technologies and local production in response to Europe’s rearmament and a changing security environment.
