South Korea’s presidential office convened a working-level meeting of the National Security Council after a joint government probe concluded that two unidentified aircraft struck the HMM Namu, causing an explosion and fire while the vessel was anchored in the Strait of Hormuz.
A Blue House official said in an afternoon press release on the 10th that the NSC working-level meeting included the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and other relevant ministries. The official said further details of the meeting could not be released.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesman Park Il briefed reporters at the Seoul Government Complex and said the joint investigation confirmed that the Namu was struck by two unidentified aircraft on May 4.
Park said the probe determined that an unidentified aircraft hit the stern of the HMM Namu on May 4. He added that the object appears on CCTV footage, but the video limits investigators’ ability to identify the operator, the exact platform type or its physical size. Officials declined to provide further details on the attacker or the craft, saying those specifics remain under verification.
