As U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s foreign ministry issued a stark warning. On the 8th local time, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei posted on X: “Just because a lion bares its fangs, don’t assume the lion is smiling.” Arab outlet Al Arabiya noted the line is a quotation from the classical Arab poet Al-Mutanabbi and said it was intended as a warning against further escalation after the previous day’s clash in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says it is reviewing a U.S. proposal for a ceasefire, but Baghaei’s remark signaled Tehran could resume military action at any time. In a statement about the clash, the Iranian navy said it struck a U.S. destroyer — which it accused of violating a ceasefire and attacking an Iranian tanker in nearby territorial waters — with multiple missiles, combat drones and rockets, and that U.S. ships then changed course and withdrew. #Iran #UnitedStates #War #Hormuz #CeasefireTalks Yonhap News TV inquiries and tips: KakaoTalk/LINE jebo23 Yerin Kim (yey@yna.co.kr)
