[Herald Economy=Reporter Choi Won-hyuk] A suspected explosive ordnance was found in a stream in Daegu, South Korea.
Yonhap reported May 5 that police received a call around 2:35 p.m. reporting an object suspected to be an explosive. It was located about 50 m downstream from Masagyo Bridge on the Sachangcheon stream in Gogok-ri, Hyoryeong-myeon, Gunwi County, Daegu.
Children playing in the stream discovered the object.
Military explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams responded to the scene. Officials identified the item as a former Soviet 76㎜ high-explosive shell and said investigators found no evidence it was an anti-aircraft munition.
A police official said investigators believe the shell dates to the Korean War and that the military recovered it.
