Israel’s N12 reports…Tensions in the Middle East deepen again
Bloomberg: U.S. military requested deployment of hypersonic missile ‘Dark Eagle’
Senior U.S. military leaders briefed President Donald Trump on a new plan for operations against Iran, and officials say they are also weighing the deployment of advanced weapons systems to the Middle East — moves that have heightened regional tensions.
On the 1st, Yonhap, citing Israel’s N12, reported that two U.S. officials said CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dan Kane, spent about 45 minutes briefing President Trump on the Iran plan on the 30th of last month (Eastern Time).
N12 noted that Trump received a similar briefing on Feb. 26 — two days before the U.S. and Israel reportedly carried out a surprise airstrike on Iran — and said that briefing influenced his decision-making regarding military action.
The network interpreted the briefings as indicating that Trump is seriously weighing a resumption of hostilities, either to break a deadlock in talks with Tehran or to deliver a decisive strike before any ceasefire.
Multiple sources told reporters that CENTCOM has drafted a short, high-impact airstrike plan against Iran that would likely concentrate on critical infrastructure and strategic targets.
Another source said planners may have presented an option to seize parts of the Strait of Hormuz to reopen commercial shipping and tanker traffic; that option could include the use of ground forces.
N12 also reported that U.S. special operations forces conducting a mission to seize Iran’s enriched-uranium stockpile is among the options under consideration.
Analysts note these moves coincide with reports that the U.S. is considering deploying advanced missile systems capable of striking deep inside Iran. Bloomberg, citing anonymous sources, reported that CENTCOM requested to deploy the Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) known as “Dark Eagle” to the Middle East; the system could be used to target Iranian ballistic-missile launchers directly.
The Dark Eagle is designed to glide at speeds in excess of Mach 5 and to execute evasive maneuvers to defeat air-defense interceptors. It has not yet been fielded in combat.
