On the 27th, the Ministry of National Defense announced it will launch a Task Force for Normalization in the Defense Sector to improve operational efficiency and deliver changes citizens can feel.
The task force will conduct a comprehensive review of entrenched, unreasonable practices and regulations raised in the field, along with systems that no longer meet current needs.
Deputy Minister Lee Du-hee will lead the task force, which will be organized as a public–private joint body to ensure objectivity and subject-matter expertise.
The ministry is strengthening communication channels with both the public and service members so that the TF’s primary driving force comes from voices on the ground.
To that end, the ministry opened a “Ministry of National Defense Citizen Suggestion Center” on its official website so anyone can submit defense-related complaints or policy ideas. It also enabled anonymous submissions so service members can provide candid feedback without exposing their identities.
The ministry will also solicit service members’ input via the military-only platform ‘장병e음’ on issues such as supply improvements, streamlined administrative procedures, and barracks-culture reforms.
Issues identified by the task force will be categorized into short-, medium-, and long-term projects, with concrete implementation roadmaps developed for each.
Deputy Minister Lee said the ministry will heed both public and internal military voices to reform abnormal practices and systems and foster a modernized defense environment.
