Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked multiple vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and seized some of them, Iranian media reported.
On April 22, the semi-official Fars news agency told BBC and NBC that the IRGC had attacked three ships in the Strait of Hormuz that day.
Fars said the IRGC targeted the MSC-affiliated ships Francesca and Defaminodas after they attempted to transit the strait without Iranian authorization. Both vessels were left unable to maneuver.
In a statement to state television and news agencies, the IRGC naval command said the vessels sailed without required permits and had “tampered with navigation systems,” posing a threat to maritime security.
The IRGC later seized the Francesca and the Defaminodas, the reports said.
That same day, the container ship Euphoria was attacked roughly eight nautical miles west of Iran. Reports said the crew were safe and the ship suffered no damage. Fars reported Euphoria is now aground off the Iranian coast, while the semi-official Mehr agency said the vessel had been seized.
Analysts say the actions come as Tehran moves to tighten military control around the Strait of Hormuz following U.S. President Donald Trump’s extension of a truce deadline.
