A commercial Airbus H130 helicopter crashed on Indonesia’s Borneo island Thursday morning on the 16th, killing all eight people aboard.
Indonesia’s Transportation Ministry said the aircraft, operated by local carrier Mashu Air Nusantara, lost contact with air traffic control about five minutes after departing the Melawi area of West Kalimantan province.
An aviation official said joint search-and-rescue teams located the wreckage and confirmed all passengers and crew were fatally injured.
The helicopter carried two crew members, including the pilot, and six passengers — one of whom was Malaysian. All aboard were male.
Recovery teams recovered the victims’ bodies from dense forest and steep terrain in the Sekadau area near the departure point.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
