Dae Sung Hi-Tech Secures $9.3 Million Defense Contract: What It Means for the Asian Arms Industry

Daniel Kim Views

Daesung Hi-Tech, a leading ultra-precision machining firm, has secured a substantial contract worth approximately 103 billion KRW (about 77.25 million USD) for the supply of 68 critical components used in ground and airborne weapon systems, the company announced on the 10th.

These high-precision parts are destined for weapon systems produced by the global defense giant Elbit Systems. The components are required to maintain exceptional accuracy and reliability under extreme operational conditions. It’s worth noting that once these parts enter full-scale production, changing suppliers becomes extremely difficult.

In addition to this contract, Daesung Hi-Tech is actively involved in the development and initial production of next-generation weapon systems for both ground and aviation sectors. This latest order serves as a precursor for several ongoing projects, with the supply being distributed across multiple initiatives.

The contract is notable for incorporating Daesung Hi-Tech’s proprietary special surface treatment process.

The company has successfully internalized a sophisticated surface treatment process previously outsourced to a specialized European firm. This achievement allows Daesung Hi-Tech to offer end-to-end production capabilities, from precision machining to specialized surface treatments and comprehensive quality control.

A spokesperson for Daesung Hi-Tech stated, “By bringing all processes in-house, we’ve not only improved our delivery times and cost-effectiveness but also significantly enhanced our technical security and ability to meet specific customer requirements. This development marks a pivotal moment in elevating our position within the global defense supply chain.”

The spokesperson further added, “We anticipate that this order will pave the way for increased production volumes and long-term contracts as we transition into full-scale manufacturing. Daesung Hi-Tech is positioning itself as a key supplier capable of simultaneously supporting multiple weapon systems for major global defense contractors, which is structurally expanding our defense business pipeline.”
