Wavve has bolstered its local news network by adding new regional broadcast channels. For the first time, the platform also began carrying a newspaper-run current-affairs YouTube channel: Hankook Ilbo’s “Kim Ji-eun’s Issue Transmission.”
On May 14, the streaming service said it added a wide slate of locally focused channels to its news section. In addition to its existing lineup of terrestrial broadcasters (KBS, MBC, SBS), national general and news channels (TV Chosun, MBN, JTBC, YTN, Yonhap News TV) and business outlets (Korea Economic TV, Maeil Business TV, Money Today Broadcasting, SBS Biz), Wavve expanded regional coverage with live feeds and VOD from KNN (Busan–Gyeongnam) and JTV (Jeonju), plus highlight-report VOD from CJB (Cheongju) and TJB (Daejeon). It also added LG HelloVision’s live news channel.
Wavve said it plans to add other regional channels, including G1 Broadcasting (Gangwon) and TBC (Daegu–North Gyeongsang). The company said the move allows users to stream high-quality local news from their hometowns or places of interest anytime. Executives described the expanded lineup as part of a denser news network that brings national and local coverage together on a single platform, meeting demand for close reporting on regional economic, social and cultural issues as well as national stories.
For the first time, Wavve has added a newspaper-operated current-affairs YouTube channel—Hankook Ilbo’s “Kim Ji-eun’s Issue Transmission”—and said it will continue negotiating to add other news outlets’ YouTube channels over time.
A Wavve representative told MediaToday on May 14 that “we will keep expanding the content users seek,” and added, “we are steadily strengthening programming that brings fresh perspectives not only to news and current affairs but across a variety of genres.”
