Wavve, the over-the-top streaming service (OTT), said on May 14 that it is significantly expanding regionally focused news coverage to deliver a service that spans national and local reporting.
The company has moved beyond a lineup centered on national broadcasters—terrestrial stations, general programming channels, hard-news and business networks—by adding numerous new channels with a stronger local focus and specialized reporting. Wavve says the changes will allow viewers to watch hometown and regional news in high definition, anytime and anywhere.
In the Wavve News section, the platform now carries major broadcast news from terrestrial stations (KBS, MBC, SBS); general and news channels (TV Chosun, MBN, JTBC, YTN, Yonhap News TV); and business channels (Korea Economic TV, Maeil Business TV, MoneyToday Broadcasting, SBS Biz). It also offers real-time channels and VOD from regional private broadcasters such as KNN (Busan/Gyeongnam) and JTV (Jeonju), LG HelloVision’s live news channel, and core report VODs from CJB (Cheongju) and TJB (Daejeon).
Wavve will add regional news channels such as G1 (Gangwon) and TBC (Daegu/Gyeongbuk) to its lineup. The company says these additions will create a denser news network on a single platform, enabling users to access national headlines alongside close-in local coverage of economic, social and cultural issues.
Wavve is also strengthening its live offerings, including live broadcasts of every KLPGA and KPGA professional golf event. The company aims for users to routinely enjoy news and sports not only on mobile devices but on large-screen smart TVs.
A Wavve spokesperson said, “We intend to make Wavve an everyday platform that people turn on—not just for dramas and variety shows, but for news and sports as well.”
