[TV Daily reporter Kim Jin-seok] The film ‘The Man Who Lives With the King’ has passed 16 million admissions.
On the 5th, distributor Showbox announced via its official social channels that the cumulative audience for The Man Who Lives With the King (directed by Jang Hang-jun, hereafter \”Wangsanam\”) has topped 16 million. The milestone came on the film’s 61st day in release, placing it third on the all-time Korean box office list behind The Admiral: Roaring Currents (17.61 million) and Extreme Job (16.26 million). It needs roughly 260,000 more admissions to overtake Extreme Job for second place. Notably, Wangsanam has been drawing about 100,000 weekend viewers per day, suggesting another record could be within reach. Its cumulative box office revenue has already surpassed those of The Admiral and Extreme Job, making it the highest-grossing Korean film in history. As of the 23rd of last month, the total stood at 1,543억원 (154.3 billion KRW, approximately $115.7 million), up from 1,425억원 (142.5 billion KRW, approximately $106.9 million) the month before. Wangsanam is rewriting the record books in both attendance and revenue. Set in 1457 at Cheongryeongpo, the film follows a village head who volunteers for exile to revive his community and a young, deposed king who has been banished from the throne.
