[Sports Today reporter Im Si-ryeong] Actor Park Bo-gum lends his voice as narrator for Documentary 3 Days.

KBS2’s Documentary 3 Days, airing on the 13th, spends 72 hours with the navy band and honor guard as they prepare for the Jinhae Naval Port Festival.

Jinhae, known as the Republic of Korea Navy’s home port, comes alive as cherry blossoms begin to bloom and the city holds the Jinhae Naval Port Festival to honor Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s spirit of defense. What makes the festival special is the Military Music & Honor Guard Festival, where all branches perform together. This year’s gathering is the largest yet: 17 teams, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, a delegation from Mongolia, and the U.S. Eighth Army, will bring roughly 900 participants.

The military band fills the air with sweeping music while the honor guard closes each routine with precise drill. The year carries added significance: both the Jinhae Base Command and the Navy band mark their 80th anniversaries, and the troops feel that responsibility deeply. After last year’s cancellation due to nationwide wildfires, the festival returns after a two-year hiatus, and preparations have been especially focused.

A few days before the event, at Jinhae Base Command where the cherry blossoms are not yet fully open, the band’s solemn melodies pierce the quiet. From the flute’s crystalline tone to the tuba’s resonant bass, the rehearsals are relentless and passionate. Outside on the drill ground the intensity is the same: under shouted commands, soldiers rehearse exacting movements with no margin for error.

Tension gives way to camaraderie during breaks. Jokes are swapped, leave plans discussed, and laughter fills the air. At the final dress rehearsal the day before the show, crisp white uniforms only heighten the focus. A single centimeter of deviation is unacceptable. One mistake can come to represent the entire unit, so every motion is repeated until it’s flawless.

Then the moment they’ve waited for arrives. Countless hours have been invested to perfect every motion and every bar of music. How will hundreds of rehearsals translate on stage? And what will this chapter mean when they look back years from now? Each performer greets their own vivid “cherry blossom ending.”

This beautiful spring day is narrated by Park Bo-gum, who offers a particularly personal perspective. Having started basic training in Jinhae and served in the navy band, Park watches the younger members with an insider’s eye. As an alumnus of the Navy’s 669th class, his words of encouragement add depth to the stories of those spending a season that shines even brighter.

Episode 718 of Documentary 3 Days, titled “Cherry Petals Scatter, Fanfare — 72 Hours with the Jinhae Navy Band & Honor Guard,” airs Monday the 13th at 8:30 p.m. on KBS2.
