[Sports Today reporter Jeong Ye-won] The film ‘Gunche’ has been selected for the Cannes Film Festival.
On the afternoon of the 9th, the film’s team announced that ‘Gunche’ was officially chosen for the Midnight Screenings section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The Midnight Screenings program is part of the festival’s non-competitive slate. Films in this category are shown theatrically but do not compete for awards. The festival’s non-competitive programming is divided into three sections: Out of Competition, Midnight Screenings, and Special Screenings.
‘Gunche’ centers on survivors trapped inside a building sealed off by a mysterious infection. As isolation sets in, they confront infected individuals who evolve in unpredictable ways. Yeon Sang-ho, director of ‘Train to Busan’ and ‘The Face,’ directs the film, which stars Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-bin, Kim Shin-rok, and Ko Soo.
Distributor Showbox released an international poster to mark the Cannes selection. The image shows infected figures drenched in blood, conveying a menacing, visceral tone.
‘Gunche’ is scheduled to open in theaters next month.
